In its activities it uses the latest technologies and innovative solutions, responding to the needs of the dynamically developing market and growing expectations of customers.Over the years ROMET has successively expanded its offer with additional services, products and sub-brands, creating various online stores – designed and written in various IT technologies.

In light of the organisation’s continued growth and our desire to create an additional store that acts as a configurator for dream bicycle equipment, we made a key decision to unify the application layer used in our e-commerce channels. Our aim was to migrate our existing shopping applications to a single, modern IT platform: Magento 2.

To this end, Romet has partnered with Polcom on a CaaS (Containers as a Service) service. CaaS (Containers as a Service) is a cloud-based model that enables developers and IT teams to upload, organise, run, scale and manage containers efficiently.

Using a single IT platform for the new application eliminates the problems associated with integrating different solutions and technologies. Financial calculations also supported the decision to use a single system, as this reduces expenses related to licences, maintenance, and the need to hire specialists for multiple platforms.

We see the biggest advantage of Polcom CaaS as the isolation of applications from other processes on the same physical or virtual operating system. Additionally, our container-based infrastructure enables us to swiftly deploy, upgrade and scale the environment as required.

As part of the CaaS implementation, we gain access to three fully monitored environments: test and development, pre-production, and production. This is extremely important to us as the monitoring includes information not only from the operating system level, but also from the resource utilisation level. This enables us to control costs more effectively.

From the perspective of an organisation operating in a global market, where sales dynamics are characterised by annual variability, we require a scalable infrastructure that can be fully adapted to our needs. We see a tangible benefit in the Polcom CaaS model primarily in terms of billing for the resources used, which we can increase or decrease as required. The pay-as-you-go model enables us to bill only for the resources used within a 1-day billing interval. This level of accuracy enables us to make dynamic business decisions over a very short period of time, which is often crucial for developing the sales potential of our organisation.
