Modern enterprises are increasingly opting for cloud services, and the growing interest has been evident for several years now. According to a study by Synergy Research Group, the European public cloud market has nearly quadrupled in the last five years.

Although official surveys by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) indicate that Poland lags behind the European Union in terms of cloud service adoption, the numerical data clearly shows significant growth dynamics. The market for these services in Poland is expected to grow by over one-third in 2022, reaching a value of approximately PLN 3 billion.

What drives the interest in cloud services?

Just as consumer needs evolve, the same applies to businesses. Economic and social factors shape the business landscape in both Poland and the world. These factors include international conflicts, pandemics, and an increasing number of cyberattacks.

A noticeable trend we observe in 2022 is that companies increasingly recognize the need to invest in protection against attacks and cybersecurity solutions. This trend is evident across industries and business sizes, both in larger enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses. This aspect determines the growing popularity of the cloud because it offers incomparable data security capabilities without the need for significant investments in additional hardware or software. The pursuit of higher business flexibility and the need for new strategies to counter cyber threats will shape the cloud services market – says Marcin Gwóźdź, CEO of Polcom.

Security budget

Companies recognize the real threat posed by cyber-attacks to their businesses. Moreover, they consider this factor as a potential growth inhibitor. Entrepreneurs have valid concerns, which is why they seek real protection against such threats, including opting for cloud services.

Undeniably, the cloud is a subject of interest for IT managers. Through IDG, we asked them what percentage of the IT budget in 2022, excluding salaries, will be consumed by cloud solutions and services. 44% of them declare that expenses for this purpose will range between 10% and 50%. Another 44% estimate that funds allocated to cloud solutions will not exceed 10% of similar IT budget expenditures. Only 12% of surveyed companies intend to allocate over 50% of their cloud-related expenses – says Natalia Gawłowska, Marketing Director at Polcom.
