Remote work versus data security

Is it possible?

Today, many employees cannot imagine working exclusively in a physical office, and during their job search, they clearly express their preference for remote or hybrid work models. This is all due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic since 2020, which has significantly transformed work standards. What should companies do to ensure peace of mind regarding the security of data taken outside the office premises?

We already know that the previous year set a record for cyber-attacks. What’s more, it doesn’t seem like there will be fewer attacks in 2022. Hackers are constantly finding new ways to steal data from companies, not only large ones but also smaller businesses.

What is the reason for hacker attacks?

This is also highlighted in the 2021 Global Security Insights report, where as many as 79% of respondents described the attacks as more sophisticated than before, yet only 41% of the respondents took steps to enhance security.

The remote work of many employees has motivated cybercriminals to return to attacks such as ransomware, DDoS, and phishing. Unfortunately, high turnover, lack of knowledge, lack of caution, or insufficient IT security departments often result in alarming signals being downplayed.

Changing the approach to protecting corporate data

Remote work and the associated risks are significant challenges for many companies, as openly stated by Marcin Pepaś – Director of the Presales and Implementation Department at Polcom:

Many companies need to reorganize their approach to security and embrace modern, but more importantly, effective solutions. If employees work in a flexible model – at any time or on any day – business owners must have the assurance that all data and applications are continuously protected.

Embracing digital solutions

Companies must embrace modern digital solutions – without them, proper data security is not possible, and it significantly increases the risk of cyber-attacks. Therefore, business owners should consider implementing appropriate cybersecurity solutions, as it is never too late to do so.

A well-designed cloud-based IT infrastructure, a comprehensive and continuously evolving security policy within the company, and developed incident response scenarios are the foundations for the functioning of a technologically advanced company in 2022. This year, ensuring data security, maintaining business continuity, and securing the supply chain will continue to be a priority for businesses – says Marcin Pepaś.
