Despite crisis, entrepreneurs invest in IT

Find out more

The COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the associated economic difficulties have caused many businesses to fear for their finances, and as a result, they are holding back on some investments. However, organizations that wanted to survive were forced to quickly adapt to new reality and move operations into the digital world. Therefore, in this difficult period, companies do not intend to reduce their spending on new technologies and IT development.

Digital transformation is priority

Investments in times of crisis paradoxically gain importance. The coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing war on our eastern border have led to an increased demand for IT services. Remote work has forced entrepreneurs to invest in properly adapted hardware and software, and the increased frequency of cyber-attacks has led companies to seek new solutions to improve the security of their systems and data.

Digital transformation allows a company not only to catch up on its technological debt but also to significantly influence the maintenance of operational continuity, improve scalability, and increase competitive advantage.

Currently, digitization and automation are crucial for a manufacturing company. Without these two elements, modern industry cannot function properly, let alone build a qualitative advantage – says Piotr Słanek, a Member of the Board at Protech.

Most planned IT investments

According to the latest report by Polcom and Intel, “IT investments in times of crisis. Cloud and new technologies. Perspective for 2022-2023,” 32 percent of respondents plan to invest in IT within the next two years, 31 percent in the next year, and 21 percent have such plans for the next three years. The most popular areas of development include critical business systems such as ERP, WMS or CRM, production automation (Industry 4.0), and cybersecurity. What is the reason behind this trend?

Currently, every new industrial machine or even small device requires connection to a parent system that will plan its work and ensure security. Penetration tests, system controls, and ongoing updates are recommended. Of course, we could manage our IT environment locally without outsourcing, but it would require a huge effort, not only financial but primarily organizational. Computerization would become the second core of our business, as without it, we would not be able to provide such a multi-level security system and effectively conduct our processes – explains Piotr Słanek.
