5 myths about cybersecurity

Find out more

Companies, regardless of their size, are increasingly facing a real threat from hackers. Unfortunately, there are still widespread beliefs that downplay this risk. And this can lead to serious consequences. In this article, we will outline five myths about cybersecurity in the business world.

Myth 1: I am the owner of an SME company, so the problem does not apply to me

It doesn’t matter whether you run a global company or a small enterprise. The SME sector can be just as attractive a target for cybercriminals as market giants. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure adequate data security , which should be a priority in building your business strategy.

Myth 2: If I have nothing to hide, I don’t have to worry about my data

For hackers, both the data of the organization itself and its customers are valuable assets. Cybercriminals can use information such as email addresses or phone numbers for phishing or other types of attacks. Protecting this data is a responsibility that affects not only the trust of contractors, but also the image of the company.

Myth 3: I have good antivirus software, so I’m safe

Antivirus software is an important part of a security strategy, but it’s not the only part. Today’s threats are much more advanced and require a comprehensive approach. It therefore becomes necessary to use a variety of tools to detect and prevent attacks, such as SOC, data encryption, anomaly detection, or protection against DoS/DDoS attacks.

Myth 4: If I have a strong password, I don’t have to worry about the security of my device

Although a strong password is extremely important, it may not be enough on its own. Hackers use sophisticated methods to crack security. Implementing two-step authentication and using password managers are additional steps to enhance security.

Myth 5: I use an encrypted VPN connection, so I am 100% secure

Using a secure VPN connection in a company is a good habit, but it doesn’t fully guarantee security. Hackers can still exploit other security vulnerabilities or phish for data directly from employees.

Cyber security is a key factor affecting an organization’s business continuity. Any enterprise can become a potential target of a hacking attack – regardless of size or area of operation. Securing sensitive data to minimize the risk of losing the integrity of business operations is therefore critical from the perspective of building competitive advantages and customer trust.
