What to avoid to keep your cloud data safe? The most common mistakes

The most common mistakes

In the context of striving for effective use of cloud infrastructure, even the most advanced organizations can make mistakes that put them at potential risk both financially and in terms of image. By eliminating these simple but strategically important lapses, companies can more effectively manage risk and protect themselves from the negative consequences of security incidents using cloud computing solutions.

Failure to perform backups

A system failure, cyber-attack, human error, or other factors can lead to data loss. Having regular backups allows you to quickly restore lost information, minimizing the negative impact on your business. Furthermore, some industries have data retention requirements and the need to ensure that data can be restored in the event of an audit. Creating regular backups helps to meet these requirements.

Lack of regular updates

Outdated systems and applications are vulnerable to exploitation of security vulnerabilities by cyber criminals. Attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access to systems or launch malware attacks. Regular updates can prevent or reduce many incidents.

Lack of traffic monitoring

A lack of continuous monitoring of cloud traffic can result in potential attacks or unauthorized network activity going unnoticed. This in turn makes the company more vulnerable to attacks, data leaks, or other information security incidents. This can lead to serious consequences such as loss of confidential information, financial penalties, or reputational damage. What’s more, anomaly detection enables a rapid response to incidents or anomalies in the network.

Lack of data encryption

Lack of data encryption exposes the company to the risk of unauthorized access to data. Without proper security, confidential information can be easily intercepted and exploited, leading to breaches of privacy and data security. Theft or leakage incidents can negatively impact an organization’s reputation and the trust of customers and business partners. A lack of encryption can therefore be seen as a failure to protect the confidentiality of information. Furthermore, organizations that do not provide adequate data security may lose competitiveness in the market, as customers will prefer companies that keep their information secure.

In summary: prevention is better than cure

Migrating to the cloud can become a solution to the risks mentioned above. Specialized cybersecurity tools and services, as well as a properly trained pool of experts, can significantly mitigate the risks associated with cyberattacks, thereby increasing the cyber security of the entire organization.
