Current challenges for businesses in Poland
What do they include?
The year 2023 brings challenges for the entire business world. In the post-pandemic reality, entrepreneurs are forced to deal with situations they have never faced before. The latest report from Polcom and Intel, “IT Investments in Times of Crisis. Cloud and New Technologies. Perspective for 2022-2023”, identifies the 5 biggest challenges that domestic organizations will have to face in the coming months. What are they?
Top three challenges
The report highlights trends for this year, which will undoubtedly be marked by many challenges. The study particularly emphasizes two IT-related aspects that are currently the most important for businesses: cybersecurity and energy security and the associated concerns about rising electricity costs – says Marcin Gwóźdź, CEO of Polcom.
92 percent of respondents identified disrupted supply chains as the biggest challenge. This means that for the vast majority of entrepreneurs in Poland, the effects of the pandemic are still being felt. Not all processes related to a smoothly functioning supply chain have been fully rebuilt, which remains a significant challenge for many companies.
91 percent of the surveyed pointed to the increase in cyber threats. The war on the eastern border and the related uncertain geopolitical situation have a direct impact on the operations of many domestic enterprises. According to data gathered by CogniClick, 77 percent of Polish firms were exposed to hacker attacks last year.
The last place in the top three challenges with indications at the level of 90 percent is the increase in prices, including electricity prices. High inflation is a direct consequence of the energy crisis caused by recent events on the international arena, including the abrupt slowdown of the global economy.
Requirements of the modern economy
85 percent of the respondents indicated a lack of knowledge and competence within their organization in terms of adapting their company’s operations to current market trends as a problem. Digitization and the associated rapid development of new technologies continue to pose a significant challenge for some businesses in Poland. The reasons for this can be attributed, among other things, to a shortage of IT specialists in the industry. In fifth place on the list of key difficulties for currently operating businesses in Poland is the change in the work model, which is a challenge for 76 percent of the respondents.
