Poczta Kwiatowa® safe in cloud with Polcom SOC

Branch:E-commerce
Key service:Cloud computing, Security Operation Center

Poczta Kwiatowa® is a pioneer in online flower sales and currently the leader in the field of sending flowers in the e-commerce channel in Poland. Customers use Poczta Kwiatowa® services on the territory of the whole country and beyond. Poczta Kwiatowa® services enable sending flowers in less than 4h on the territory of Poland and delivering them abroad to over 150 countries.

Challenge

The specific nature of online sales is largely associated with the need to adequately prepare the IT infrastructure for so-called seasonal sales peaks. During the hectic period, the load on Poczta Kwiatowa®’s IT systems increases by up to fifteen times, which can put a significant strain on the IT environment.

Key factors considered in the project were:

  • Scalability of the IT platform
  • Continuity of operations during a pandemic
  • Ensuring a high level of security
Solution

Poczta Kwiatowa® is constantly developing its services and adapting them on an ongoing basis to the needs of customers, who are increasingly opting for online shopping and dedicated applications for mobile devices.

The company was well aware that the slow performance of the online shop or downtime in the shopping path are factors that can ultimately discourage customers and put the shop at risk of losing orders.

In order to ensure high scalability and continuity of systems and applications, Poczta Kwiatowa® has been using Polcom’s secure cloud computing for many years. Cloud computing allows unlimited scalability of the IT infrastructure depending on current needs, thanks to which the company efficiently fulfils recipients’ orders, even during the busiest purchasing periods.

Security Operations Center in a service model

As Poczta Kwiatowa® was looking to secure the website against cyber-attacks and data loss, while also gaining full support for monitoring and response to security incidents, the company decided to implement Polcom’s comprehensive SOC solution, the Security Operation Center, in a service model.

As part of the SOC service for Poczta Kwiatowa®, Polcom provides:

  • Protection of payment card data of customers using the e-commerce platform
  • Security incident monitoring and analysis
  • Protection against DoS/DDoS attacks
  • Active support
  • Ad hoc support
  • Procedural security

Cost optimization

Both Polcom’s cloud computing and SOC are associated with significant cost optimisation and protect against unforeseen expenses related, for example, to the purchase of in-house IT infrastructure or the cost of additional licences. Polcom’s SOC service allowed Poczta Kwiatowa to reduce the cost of implementing a full security incident monitoring system associated with additional applications, hardware and the employment of experienced cyber security specialists by as much as 85 percent.

company

For years, our purchasing platform has been running on cloud computing. I am convinced that the choice of cloud computing effectively protects us from unforeseen expenses and investments in the area of IT infrastructure. Whatever the situation, we have the ability to scale our systems and ensure the continuity of our service to customers. By using Polcom’s cloud computing, we only incur costs for the resources used, which proves to be an invaluable added value.

Companies like ours are exposed to attacks from hackers on a daily basis, especially during sales peaks. So far, we have successfully prevented external attacks. However, the lack of unpleasant experiences for business continuity should not and does not give us an argument not to implement additional security measures. We have always tried to stay ahead of the market in the selection of technological solutions in order to be able to create trends in online sales. It was therefore a natural path for us to go one step further and secure our IT resources accordingly.

The Polcom SOC service allows us to protect ourselves from potential, dangerous attacks and to monitor our systems more precisely at every stage of the sale – which is why we decided to implement it at Poczta Kwiatowa. The Security Operation Centre allows us not only to protect ourselves against attacks, but also to monitor the status of our IT resources and to react in a timely manner to potential failures before they occur. Thanks to this, we have not only the certainty that we properly secure our data and our customers’ data, but also that we can provide them with uninterrupted services at the highest level, giving them full satisfaction with the possibility of shopping on the Poczta Kwiatowa® platform.
